A 19-year-old male was apprehended by the police on suspicion of murder subsequent to the discovery of his missing girlfriend's body in the trunk of her car. TheHouston Police Department revealedthat the victim's family reported her absence after she failed to attend school on November 28.

Concern arose when her Honda Civic was found parked on Indigo Street, prompting one of her relatives to open the vehicle, where they tragically found her lifeless in the trunk. Authorities noted signs of facial trauma on the victim, identified as Idania Maria Campos Muñoz by KHOU-TV.

Surprisingly, Muñoz's boyfriend, Ariel Cruz, actively participated in the search with her family. However, during investigations, Cruz purportedly confessed to the murder, leading to his arrest and murder charges. Court records obtained by KHOU alleged that Cruz fatally shot Muñoz due to the termination of their relationship. Currently held on a $500,000 bond, Cruz awaits further legal proceedings.

As per the Houston Police Department (HPD), Idania was reported missing by her family on Tuesday morning after she vanished subsequent to dropping her sisters off at school.

"I saw her every morning because she took us to school and I didn’t know that was going to be the last time ... and I didn’t get to say ... I didn’t get to say goodbye to her and I just wish I could’ve told her and hugged her and said to her that I really loved her," one of Idania's five sisters, Alexandra Campos Muñoz, said.

HPD confirmed on Tuesday evening that her body was discovered in a vehicle's trunk situated on Indigo Street, located near Chimney Rock Road, just south of Beechnut in the Meyerland vicinity.

Concern grew among family and friends as Idania went missing, prompting them to track her phone's location to Indigo Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the family's locked car, leading them to contact the police for assistance. Law enforcement officers arrived, conducted a brief search, and subsequently departed.

Worried about Idania's whereabouts, her loved ones began knocking on neighbors' doors and requesting access to surveillance footage in the area. Notably, a significant red flag arose as Idania had left her phone and personal belongings inside the locked vehicle.

After several attempts to access the car, including waiting for a locksmith, they resorted to breaking a window to gain entry. Eventually, Idania's aunt recounted how her brother-in-law used a hammer to shatter the window and unlock the trunk, where they tragically discovered her lifeless body.

The devastating discovery left the family in shock, with HPD Lt. Larry Crowson acknowledging the distressing impact on Idania's relatives. Despite the unexpected nature of Cruz's actions, the family hopes for appropriate justice in this heartbreaking situation. Cruz's bond was set at $500,000 following his arrest on charges of murder.

Ariel Cruz, 19, faces murder charges in the 184th State District Court following the death of a 21-year-old woman discovered at 5400 Indigo Street around 5:40 p.m. on November 28. The victim's identity is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

On the morning of November 28, the victim's family noticed her absence from school and located her black Honda Civic parked on Indigo Street. Despite their search, they couldn't find her. Later that day, a family member forcibly accessed the vehicle's trunk, where they tragically found the victim unresponsive. Emergency responders declared her deceased, noting facial trauma.

Investigations led detectives to Cruz, who had been present during the family's search. Upon interrogation, Cruz confessed to his involvement in his girlfriend's death, resulting in his arrest and subsequent murder charges.

Ariel Cruz Confession

According to the police, Ariel Cruz confessed to shooting the victim at a shopping center, placing her body in the car trunk, and abandoning the vehicle in the Meyerland area, close to where he resides with his mother.

Investigators noted Cruz's deceitful behavior as he feigned concern while joining Idania's family in their search for her. Idania's sister, Jennifer Campos Muñoz, recounted how Cruz appeared remorseful and comforting, even though it seemed like he was already aware of the situation.

The victim's family revealed that Cruz had recently visited their residence, suggesting a level of familiarity between him and Idania, despite her desire to end their relationship. They remembered Idania, a graduate of Lamar High School and a student at Houston Community College, as intelligent, humorous, and always willing to lend a hand.
