Yuee Zhou (73) is killed and partially dismembered in her home

Zhou was found by her son during a daily visit. She was found facedown in a pool of blood with extensive injuries while her husband, Jieming Liu (79, pictured), calmly sat in a rocking chair, with blood on his mouth, hands, and clothing. Liu repeatedly told his son, “This is not your mother,” and the police were notified.

According to Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr., police “Found the victim face down in a rear bedroom with severe injuries to her left arm including but not limited to the separation of the arm below the elbow; the severed arm was missing most of its flesh. The upper arm, the bone was also exposed and that was missing flesh.” In addition, police found severed fingers in the home and “what appeared to be pieces of flesh and body about the floor” near the chair Liu had occupied. Due to the blood on Liu’s mouth and the flesh near his chair, it was speculated he may have eaten some of Zhou’s flesh though this could not be confirmed.

Zhou’s cause of death and any possible murder weapons were not released to the press.

Liu was charged with first-degree murder, mayhem, and assault and battery, and a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf; his attorney stated Liu likely had undiagnosed dementia and was unaware of his actions. While awaiting trial, Liu was transferred to Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Boston where he died of natural causes on May 4, 2012.
