Wu Huanming (48) kills 9 and injured 12 at a kindergarten following a property dispute
Wu was the owner of a two-story building which was partially rented to Wu Hongying (50, no relation to Wu Huanming) who ran a private kindergarten. Wu Hongying’s lease expired in April and Wu requested she vacate the building, though Wu Hongying stated she wished to stay until summer. An argument between the two escalated and Wu was seen walking to his home to retrieve a meat cleaver.
As Wu returned to the kindergarten, several neighbors left their homes to see what the commotion was about. Upon seeing Wu with the cleaver, the neighbors went inside their homes and shut their doors in fear. Wu walked into the kindergarten, slashing at the children and adults. He killed seven children whose ages ranged from 3 to 6 years old, Wu Hongying and her 80-year-old mother Su Runhua, and injured 11 children and another teacher. Only three people, all children, escaped without injury.
Wu then left the school and returned to his home. He was seen smoking a cigarette on his balcony as neighbors rushed to the school, then walked back inside his home to kill himself. News reports did not specify his method of suicide.
