A man kills 6 of his 7 children, sets his house on fire, and kills himself

The motive behind Charles Coatney Bray’s murder-suicide was marital discord, as his wife had recently filed for divorce. He left a suicide note addressed to his wife, though the contents were not released to the public.

Bray shot each of his children, whose ages ranged from 5 to 16, as they slept, set fire to his home, and shot himself in the forehead on his front yard. Mrs. Bray and her 18-year-old son were not in the home at the time of the murders and were spared.
