Lucille Grider (34 or 38) kills her daughter, Carole, with a hammer
Carole (alt. spelling Carol) was either 7 or 8 at the time of her murder (sources vary). According to The Ludington Daily News (July 26, 1946), Grider stated “I don’t know what happened. Carol put her arms around me and she said she loved me, but I just hit her.” Lucille was found guilty of murder and placed in a mental health facility. Her husband George, “a battle fatigued veteran of Okinawa” was in the care of a mental hospital at the time of Carole’s murder.
