Lawyer Garry Hoy falls from a 24th floor window after demonstrating to a group the unbreakable characteristics of the glass
Hoy had been fond of this dramatic demonstration, often hurling himself at the glass with no damage to himself or the building. In fact, Hoy had performed his trick shortly before his final attempt, which caused the glass to pop from its frame, sending it and Hoy to the ground below during the fateful demonstration. It is believed Hoy enjoyed running at the glass because of pride in the structural durability of the building; Hoy had been an professional engineer before studying law. The accident happened at the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower (now simply called TD Bank Tower) pictured, center.
