Comedian Phil Hartman is shot by his wife while he sleeps, who later turns the gun on herself
Phil and his wife Brynn had engaged in an argument over her drug usage; Phil gave Brynn an ultimatum to stop using or he would leave her. He then went to sleep. Angered and slightly intoxicated, she shot Phil once in the head and twice in the side as he slept.
Brynn went to a friend’s house and confessed her murder, though the friend didn’t believe her initially. The two drove to the Hartman household where Brynn’s friend called 911. The police arrived, escorted Brynn’s friend and the two Hartman children off the premises, and Brynn locked herself in her bedroom. She committed suicide by shooting herself in the mouth.
