During trial, Gladys MacKnight (17) accuses her ex-boyfriend of killing her mother with a hatchet

According to the younger MacKnight, her 18-year-old boyfriend Donald Wightman bashed Mrs. MacKnight over the head with a hatchet after she attacked the couple with a knife for hugging and kissing in her kitchen.

Both were convicted and sentenced to “not less than 28 years nor more than 30 years at hard labor.” Macknight was paroled in 1943. I could find no further information of Wightman.
