A young woman named Dollie Delaney (her full name was Dora Amanda Delaney) killed herself by leveraging a rifle against a wall and using a crutch to pull its trigger.
Delaney had been born with malformed limbs, and was missing her hands and feet. Despite this, newspapers reported she “could crochet and do fancy work.” The Paducah Sun-Democrat (Paducah, Kentucky) wrote of her in their May 16 issue stating Delaney also “wrote a good hand and kept the township books for her father, who was a member of the township’s board.”
