Man murders woman, 2 young children in apparent robbery

May 11, 1982
Jacksonville, Florida
Allen Lee Davis murders a pregnant mother and her 2 young daughters

Davis, who stood at 6’2”, weighed 350 lbs., and held the ironic nickname of “Tiny,” broke into the home of the Weiler family. Once inside, he beat Mrs. Weiler over 25 times with a .357 across her face and head, leaving her “nearly unrecognizable.” The beating was so severe the trigger guard as well as the wooden grip and metal frame of the gun’s handle broke during the attack. He also shot the bound 9-year-old Kristina in the face twice and shot 5-year-old Katherine in the back as she tried to run away before bashing her skull in with the gun. The motive for the murders seem to have been robbery as a camera and some jewelry were stolen from the home. Davis had a history of robbery, and was on parole for armed robbery at the time of the murders.

Davis’ execution was held on July 8, 1999, though his excess weight (he was roughly 350lbs) was believed to have lead to the electrocution to be botched; he could be heard screaming under his mask and blood poured from his nose to his chest. An investigation revealed he had been bleeding prior to electricity being used, a result of blood thinning medication. Regardless of how or why Davis’ execution resulted in an unusually bloody end, Florida has since switched to lethal injection as its preferred method of execution with Davis being the last person executed in Florida’s electric chair.
