Billy Wayne White is executed by lethal injection after his executioner tried for 47 minutes to find a vein
16 years before his execution, White robbed a furniture store’s owner and her husband as they were about to close shop. With no provocation, he shot Mrs. Spinks in the face at point-blank range before demanding her husband open the safe. He also took rings off the dead woman’s body, and dropped his pistol while kneeling. Mr. Spinks seized the gun and fired twice in White’s groin, who fled but was apprehended a quarter of a mile away. He was found with $269.
During his execution, the executioner had a difficult time finding a vein due to White’s longtime heroin abuse. According to the director of Texas prisons, White “was very compliant, very courteous, very cooperative. In fact, he attempted to assist us.”
