Domestic terrorists bomb the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building
Three former members of the US Army, angry at the FBI involvement in the Ruby Ridge and Waco incidents, conspired to set off a truck bomb in the federal building. The resulting blast killed at least 168 and injured over 680.
Timothy McVeigh, one of the conspirators, later told investigators he had planned to assassinate those he felt were responsible for the poor handling of the Waco and Ruby Ridge incidents, including Attorney General Janet Reno, and said he sometimes wished he went with the assassinations instead. He also claimed the plan originally was to blow up the building after it was empty, but decided the message would be better received if there were many casualties.
