The suicide of Kurt Cobain

April 5, 1994 (estimated)
Seattle, Washington
Singer Kurt Cobain dies from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head

The final month of Cobain’s life held 2 alleged suicide attempts: on March 4, Cobain’s wife Courtney Love found him unconscious from an overdose of champagne and Rohypnol; on March 28, Love called police claiming Cobain had a gun and was suicidal, though Cobain stated he was not suicidal and had locked himself in his room to hide from Love.

Cobain was seen numerous times in Seattle on April 2 and 3, though Love hired a private investigator to locate her husband on April 3. On April 8, Cobain’s body was discovered in his home by an electrician who had come to install a security system. A suicide note, addressed to Cobain’s childhood imaginary friend Boddah, was also found. Though Cobain’s death was officially ruled a suicide, many theorize he was murdered.

Cobain is a member of the infamous “27 Club,” a group of young artists who all died at the age of 27. Other members include: Jimi Hendrix (overdose), Jim Morrison (congestive heart failure), Brian Jones (drowning), Janis Joplin (overdose), Amy Winehouse (alcohol intoxication), Johnathan Brandis (suicide), Anton Yelchin (car accident, blunt traumatic asphyxia), and Jean-Michel Basquiat (overdose).
