FLW: wanted SpaghettiOs

Famous Last Words
Thomas Grasso
McAlester, Oklahoma
March 20, 1995

“Please tell the media I did not get my SpaghettiOs, I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.”

Grasso was executed by lethal injection for the robberies and deaths of two elderly victims. The first was an 87-year-old woman in Oklahoma who was strangled with her Christmas lights; Grasso stole $8 from her purse, $4 in loose change, and het TV which he sold for $125. The second was an 81-year-old man in New York, killed for his social security check.

When arrested for the murder of his male victim, Grasso confessed to the murder of his female victim as well. He was tried and convicted for the murder of his second victim, spared the death penalty due to New York’s position regarding capital punishment. Oklahoma, upon hearing of his confession to one of their citizens requested the prisoner, and Grasso was extradited, tried, convicted, and sentenced to death.

Though part of Grasso’s last meal was to consist of SpaghettiOs, he instead received canned spaghetti and meatballs, served room temperature. Additionally, he was given two dozen steamed mussels, a further two dozen steamed clams which were flavored with a lemon wedge, a Burger King double cheeseburger, six barbecued spare ribs, half of a pumpkin pie with whipped cream, diced strawberries, and two strawberry milkshakes.
