Steven Timothy Judy
March 9, 1981
“I don’t hold no grudges. This is my doing. I’m sorry it happened.”
Judy was executed for the rape and murder of Terry Chasteen (21) and her 3 children between 2 and 5 years old. He coerced Chasteen to the side of the road while driving, claiming she had an issue with the back of her car. He then disabled it secretly and offered to give her a ride home. Judy then m drove them some distance, pulled to the side of the road, and directed the children to a creek. When they went ahead, Judy grabbed Chasteen, bound her, then raped and choked her.
The children, hearing the struggle, came back up the path to defend their mother. Judy strangled Chasteen, threw her into the creek, then threw the children as far as he could into the creek. All three children drowned. At trial, he requested jurors sentence him to death because he knew he would kill if he had the chance. The jury obliged and Judy became the first convict executed in Indiana after the death penalty was reinstated in 1977.
