Charles Harvey Odom is executed for the rape of a 13-year-old
On July 23, 1961, Odom kidnapped Lisa Schuh at gunpoint, sexually assaulted her, and beat her head with a rock. She was injured so severely that she was unconscious for 5 weeks and was permanently disabled after regaining consciousness.
An article in The Kansas City (MO) Times (Aug. 29 1964) noted Schuh had undergone 4 brain surgeries and suffered permanent paralysis on the right side of her body. It was also reported that severe brain damage inhibited her speech to the point she could no longer attend school. The article also reported Schuh had no memory of the attack and that her parents had simply told her she injured herself during an accident to spare her from any further harm the memories may have brought.
