“Bandit Queen” Belle Starr is killed from shotgun blasts to her back, neck, shoulders, and face
Starr’s murder was never solved, though some speculation as to the murderer and motive have been made. One holds that a man asked Starr to dance with him and, after he was rejected, followed her as she left before shooting her when she let her horse drink from a creek. Another proposes a fellow outlaw killed her when she threatened to turn him in for a bounty. Yet another involves her own son killing her for beating him after he mistreated her horse.
