Crown Point, Indiana
David Edward Maust twists a bed sheet to hang himself in his cell; he dies hours later at a local hospital.
Maust had been convicted of killing 3 males, aged 13 to 19, and had already served time for the murder of another boy in Illinois and manslaughter in Germany. The remains of three bodies were discovered under his basement floor. A note found near him after he was discovered hanging read “maybe with my death the families and the people can go on with their lives and not waste energy wondering why I was still alive.”
