FLW: the king curses his nurse

Famous Last Words
King George V
Sandringham House, Norfolk, England
January 20, 1936

“God damn you!”

George V’s Last Words were directed to his nurse as she gave him a sedative the night he died. It was later revealed that the King’s doctor, Lord Dawson of Penn, had purposefully given the King two consecutive lethal injections, one of morphine and one of cocaine. Lord Dawson claimed he did so to allow the King’s death to be published in the morning edition of The Times rather than “less appropriate” evening editions of other newspapers.
