Edgar Allan Poe born

Happy birthday, Edgar Allan Poe
Born January 19, 1809

Poe dropped out of the University of Virginia and was expelled from the United States Military Academy and struggled with finances when he decided to make a living entirely from his writing, but is recognized for creating the detective fiction genre and helping lay the groundwork for science fiction. His works include “The Raven,” “The Masque of the Dead Death,” “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” “The Pit and the Pendulum”, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
