“Linda Andersen” is drowned by her teenage daughters “Sandra” (16) and “Beth” (15)
(Names provided are aliases to protect the girls’ identities as they were minors at the time of the murder)
Linda was a single mother with 2 jobs, raising her daughters after their father left. Linda also wrestled with alcohol dependency and depression. The girls had been growing increasingly more upset with their mother for spending too much money on alcohol and for not providing them with nicer material possessions which their friends had, and decided to kill their mother to collect her insurance ($68,000 each) which they planned to spend on a trip to Europe for themselves and their friends as well as a nice house with a marijuana farm in the backyard.
The girls’ plan was to drown their mother, believing it would be “fast and unspectacular.” They provided ample amounts of vodka and 6 Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen with codeine) tablets to keep her from resisting their attack and to slow her heartbeat. They helped Linda into the bath and Sandra asked her to lean forward to scrub her back then immediately held her head under the water for several minutes. When the girls ensured Linda was dead, they called 9-1-1 crying their mother was found unresponsive in the bath.
Police initially believed the sisters until a young man came forward saying one of the sisters had told him of her mother’s murder. Police wired the young man who was able to coerce the girls into describing the murder. The girls were sentenced to 10 years and separated while in jail. They were released early on probation and are reportedly attending university.
