1998 Algerian massacre

January 11, 1998
Sidi-Hamed, Algeria
A group of suspected Islamic radicals kill between 120 and 400+ people

Those responsible for the attack have not been confirmed, with speculation falling on groups wishing to prove the government has little to no power to protect its people, the Armed Islamic Group, or the Islamic Salvation Front. As the perpetrators were not identified, the motive behind this and other massacres from January 11 – 16 are unknown.

About 50 terrorists stormed the town, killing children and adults indiscriminately, raping girls and women before slicing their throats, and bombing a mosque and cafe among other horrific acts.

Surprisingly little information from Western news sources exist on the massacre. However, more information can be read here or here.
