Pretoria Pit Explosion

An underground explosion at the Hulton Bank Colliery No. 3 Pit, known as the Pretoria Pit, kills a total of 344

Mrs. Miriam Tyldesley was affected particularly gravely, losing her husband, 4 sons, and 2 brothers in the blast. A relief fund was started to provide financial support for the families of the victims (the picture shows one of the fundraising stalls used), raising £145,000 (£15,515,000 in 2016, or $19,153,900) to distribute to the families and defendants of the victims.
