The Zodiac Killer’s first victims

December 20, 1968
Vallejo, California
David Faraday (17) and Betty Lou Jensen (16) are killed, becoming the Zodiac Killer’s first confirmed murders

Faraday and Jensen had originally planned to go to a Christmas party for their first date, but instead visited a remote gravel lane near a lake (the area was known as a lover’s lane).

Between 11:00pm and 11:05pm, the Zodiac Killer ordered the couple out of the Rambler and fired at least two .22 rounds into the vehicle. The pair was ordered out of the car and Faraday was shot through the lower part of his left ear (his chalk outline and the blood from his head wound can be seen pictured) while Jensen was shot in the back 5 times several feet from the car (the blood from where her body was found is also pictured).

At approximately 11:20, a passing motorist discovered the scene and immediately contacted police. Faraday was found still breathing and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:05, but Jensen had suffered too great of wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Zodiac Killer has yet to be identified, though several theories as to his identity have been proposed including Dennis Rader (also known as BTK or Bind Torture Kill) and, although suggested in a tongue-in-cheek manner, Senator Ted Cruz who was born in 1970. The Zodiac case is currently inactive.
