Charles Milles Maddox, better known as Charles Manson, is born
Manson was the ringleader of a love and murder cult The Manson Family, responsible for several brutal deaths, mostly infamously the murders of Sharon Tate and her house guests. Originally sentenced to death for murder and conspiracy, the penalty was eventually overturned to life imprisonment after the abolition of the death penalty in California.
Pictured are Manson and his then-fiancé Afton Elaine “Star” Burton. The two had filed for a marriage license which expired before a ceremony was performed. Reportedly, the wedding was canceled when it was discovered Burton was only marrying Manson to obtain his body after his death to use as a tourist attraction.
