A newspaper reports a husband confessing to murdering his wife

The husband’s, Charles Herman, account stated he argued with his wife Eva on November 1, forbidding her from leaving their home. She left the room to presumably go change, and Charles followed where they argued more. He pulled a straight razor and hacked at her, one slash cutting the end of a finger off, another cut her neck under her ear. Eventually he was able to position himself above her in order to slit her throat. After she stopped breathing, he placed her body on the bed and went out drinking for 3 days, each night returning to sleep in the bed where his wife’s corpse lay.

Charles was found guilty and sentenced to death. He was executed by hanging on February 12, 1886.
