Murdered by Human Wolves

October 10, 1917
Konawa, Oklahoma
Katherine Cross, an 18-year-old unwed woman, is “murdered by human wolves”

Though at first thought it appears that young Katherine, daughter of John Taylor Cross and Mary Katherine Diehl Cross, was killed by a band of werewolves, her actual death came at the hands of Dr. A.H. Yates and his assistant Fredrick O’Neal. Her death certificate lists the cause of death as a “criminal operation,” and as Dr. Yates was involved with the death of another young woman under similar circumstances, many believe Katherine and the second woman were killed during a botched illegal abortion.

Her headstone reads:

KATHERINE
