Charles Walker
Crest Hill, Illinois
September 12, 1990
“I’m guilty. I can accept my punishment. I’m sorry I done it, yeah, but it’s done.”
Walker had robbed, shot, and killed a couple as they were fishing in 1983; they were 21 and 25 at the time of their murders. Walker was able to steal $40 from them.
During his execution, several factors delayed and exacerbated his lethal injection, including an issue with the tubing carrying one of the drugs and the IV needle pointing away from his heart. Walker reportedly died in agony. The state of Illinois has since abolished capital punishment, signed into law in 2011.
