The mummified body of a young girl sacrificed to Incan gods is discovered
The girl, nicknamed Momia Juanita (“mummy Juanita”), the Inca Ice Maiden, and Lady of Ampato, is approximated to have been 12-15 years old at the time of her death, and killed between 1450 and 1480. Due to her ornate clothing, including a cap made of red macaw feathers, as well as gold and silver figurines surrounding her, it is likely Juanita was a sacrifice to the Incan gods. She was killed by blunt force trauma to the head which caused her right eye socket to crack, gave her a 2-inch skull fracture, and caused a major hemorrhage.
